All busy nurses know that it can be tough to make time for yourself when you dedicate your life to helping others. However, just because you stay busy in a high-stress work environment does not mean that you shouldn’t take good care of yourself. These are a few tips that you can follow at work that will help you be healthier and happier.
1. Use Your Lunch Break Wisely
Instead of going out for lunch, consider eating a quick, healthy meal at your desk and then heading outside for some exercise. Taking a few laps around the hospital, for example, can be enough to help you get some fresh air and get in a quick workout.
2. Use a Slow Cooker
Consider bringing in a small slow cooker and plugging it in somewhere in the break room. It’ll allow you to bring along soups, stews and other tasty, healthy lunch options. This can prevent you from dining out and can allow you to shake up your daily sandwich or salad routine.
3. Do a Stretching Routine
It can be easy to get uncomfortable and sore from bending over, lifting heavy things (and people!) and otherwise getting the job done throughout the day. Take a few minutes to stretch your muscles before you start each workday to help stay limber and comfortable and to prevent stretched muscles.
As you can see, it’s entirely possible to do things for yourself while you’re at work. Following these three tips can help you look and feel your best, even when you’re always busy while you’re on the job.
