Most people hear the word marathon and immediately get discouraged. If you no longer wish being in the “most people” category then start training for your Goals immediately. There is a way to make such a feat fun which, in turn makes it easy as well.
Attack your goals! The best way to do so is to plan. With a good plan anything you strive for will be achievable.
Nothing in the world feels as good as accomplishing a goal you set for yourself. Divide your final goal into four lesser goals: this will empower you enough to tackle your final desired achievement. A half marathon is 13.1 miles so set your first goal at just a quarter of that distance. For your second and third goals, add the remainders. Treat all of your goals exactly how you will treat the big event; that way when it is time for you to crush your first goal, you will give it your all. It should look something like this:
Monday: Train; Tuesday: Rest; Wednesday: Train; Thursday: Rest; Friday: Goal #1: Run 3.2 miles; Saturday/ Sunday: Rest.
Monday: Train; Tuesday: Rest; Wednesday: Train; Thursday: Rest; Friday: Goal #2: Run 6.5 miles; Saturday/ Sunday: Rest.
Monday: Train; Tuesday: Rest; Wednesday: Train; Thursday: Rest; Friday: Goal #3: Run 9.8 miles; Saturday/ Sunday: Rest.
Monday: Train; Tuesday: Rest; Wednesday: Train; Thursday: Rest; Friday: Goal #4: Run half marathon.
This schedule sets you up for success and gives you a sense of progress the whole way. Following this will break down any doubts you have within yourself and will bolster your confidence.
