Unless you’re among those who rise before the sun, throw back a raw egg or two, and dart blissfully out the door on their journey, staying committed to a workout regimen can be quite difficult. There are endless tasks to attend to on a daily basis, and the pace of this high-tech world is neither slowing nor offering an extra hour or two to ensure a session of cardio can be shoved in. This is where your mobile device has the power to reconnect you to your fitness goals.
If you’re a newcomer to the world of fitness apps, you’ll soon discover you have countless options. However, there are three apps which are especially effective when it comes to keeping users on track towards their ideal level of fitness, and all three are compatible with both iPhone and Android.
1. Pact (formerly Gympact) allows users to create three different types of pacts. You can make a veggie pact, food logging pact, or gympact. The unique part about this particular app is that it not only incentivizes working out and eating nutritiously, it also incorporates a system which requires payment only when you miss a promised workout, meal, or calorie count. You can choose to commit to one of the three pacts or take on all three, but it definitely pays to stick to your decided goal.
2. Runkeeper is built for those who like to log miles through activities like walking, running, hiking, and cycling. You’re able to set goals, track personal records, join challenges, and connect with friends who can see your progress. A great feature on this app is the offering of various training programs designed by professionals in the different training categories. It also includes the option to receive audible updates on your pace, distance, and time as you workout. While the app on the iPhone does a great job of tracking progress and celebrating successes such as longest run, fastest walk or highest incline, the interface looks a lot cleaner on Android phones.
3. Nike Training Club is a great way to squeeze in workouts throughout the day without taking up too much time. The app uses photos and videos to teach users different exercises from jumping rope and side lunges to jogging and back pedaling. These exercises assist users in reaching any of the following preset goals: Get Toned, Get Lean, or Get Strong. No matter your fitness level, there’s a workout for you that will help you break a sweat and burn calories while reaching in-app milestones. The best part is, you have the opportunity to earn your way to workouts designed by some of Nike’s top athletes featured in the app.
All three apps are free in the iTunes Store and on Google Play.
