You want to lose weight so badly. You are watching everything that you put into your mouth. You have joined a gym and try to work out several times a week. However, you are not noticing any difference. You might decide that you need to cut back on your calories some more. At this point you might be so desperate with weight loss that you might consider starving yourself.
It is really bad to starve yourself. It can also hinder your diet even more. Here are some reasons that you should be eating a healthy diet instead of skipping meals.
- You might lose a few pounds when you first stop eating. However, it is mostly water weight and you will gain it right back when you start eating again. There are worse side effects if you continue to starve yourself.
- When you don’t eat, your body goes into a starvation mode. Your body will actually hold on to all of the calories that you eat. Instead of losing weight, you will retain all of the fat that you eat.
- In starvation mode, you actually will lose muscle. Your body will try to get nutrients from your muscles instead of the fat in your body.
- When you starve yourself, your body will not have the nutrients that you need. In turn, you will not have much energy and feel sluggish. Often, you just won’t feel well. You will be more prone to illnesses.
- Another side effect of starvation includes a slower metabolism. This makes it even harder to lose the weight that you wanted to.
When you are desperate to lose weight, it sometimes feels like you would do anything just to lose some of the extra pounds. However, starving yourself is more harmful. You might actually gain weight because your body is trying to keep all of the fat that it can. You will also lose muscle so you won’t look as toned. Your metabolism will decrease and you simply won’t feel good because your body does not have the nutrients that it desperately needs.
