P90X‘s Tony Horton is no stranger to fitness. Creator of multiple successful workout programs, Tony knows what it means to attain fitness and does his best to share his strategies with everyone.
In this recent article Tony acknowledges that as he ages he is no longer as strong as he used to be. “I used to bench a couple of 90-pound dumbbells pretty easily. Now I’m down to 80s,” he stated. Combine his age with a recent shoulder injury and it is not surprising he may be backsliding in terms of weight.
However, Tony Horton is nothing if not optimistic and he repeats what he has always said in his P90X workouts. Tony has always been a big supporter of doing what you NEED TO DO to make workouts successful for you. Not your neighbor, or friend, or workout buddy. Your focus during your workouts needs to be on you, what you are capable of, and listening to your body.
When asked about how to cope with his age or injury impacted his working out, he replied. “You take more baths, you get more physical therapy, you do more yoga — whatever you need to do.” To accommodate this, his more recent workouts featured in P90X3 are half as long, a mere 30 minutes rather than an hour or more.
Tony says that they paid attention to the feedback they received on the original P90X. It was a widely successful and well-loved program, but many people complained of being unable to complete the workouts. It was a toss up between being too much for some and too long for others.
The natural development and evolution of Tony’s workouts exemplifies what he has been saying all along. The true key to fitness success rests in you doing what works best for you.
Thanks for the tips, Tony!
