It can be difficult to eat healthy meals during the holiday-party season, but P90X’s Tony Horton has some tips and tricks to use that will help you stay on track, whether you’re the party guest or host.
Tony Horton, creator of P90X, and fitness expert understand the challenges we face during the holidays. It can be so hard to keep our eye on our weight, nutrition, and fitness, while still being able to enjoy ourselves. In this Inside Fitness article, Tony shares his top tips and tricks for surviving the holiday season.
Tony explains that there are different strategies you can use, depending on your role this holiday season, to ensure success.
As a cook…
As a cook Tony recommends researching some tasty and healthy recipes. He recommends The Karma Chow Ultimate Cookbook as a good resource to use. As a cook the power is in your hands to serve nutritious food that is still pleasing to the taste buds! You can do it!
Additionally, be kind to your guests. Be sure to include a wide variety of healthy dishes. This way everyone can find something that they enjoy, including those with specific food allergies.
As the guest…
As the guest there is a lot of power in your hands, Tony points out. Here are three specific tips to keep in mind:
- If you suspect that your family or friends are not going to have a very healthy dinner, consider eating healthy food before you go. If you aren’t going on an empty stomach you’ll make smarter food choices.
- Don’t feel like you have to deprive yourself. Depriving yourself can backfire. Instead allow yourself small portions of some of your favorite foods, even if they are unhealthy.
- Focus on foods such as green leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, and whole grains. They will fill you up and stabilize energy levels.
- Pace your eating. We tend to eat so fast our body cannot process when we’re full. Take your time. Chew well, talk to others, and enjoy the food.
- Drink plenty of water! It is a great and healthy way to keep your stomach feeling fuller.
Those are just a few of Tony Horton’s top holiday tips! Remember to enjoy your time. Tony himself knows that the holidays are some of the few times we can really relax and spend time with your family. You can be fit, eat well, and still be happy!
