Busy Nurses all know that there simply isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done. However, our health is crucial so it needs to a focus. Fortunately we are in a time when technology is so prevalent you can make it work for you! Thanks to all of our smart phones  and computers there are many apps and programs out there dedicated to nearly every subject.

Of course fitness and health is one of those subjects. Want to know what is even better? There are FREE apps dedicated to these topics. Check out these free time-saving apps:

Fitness:

1. MyFitnessPal – This app allows you to track your calorie intake, how many calories your exercise burns, record weight loss, set goals, and much more. It is very easy to use and helps you track your progress.

2. Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout – As a nurse, chances are you don’t have a lot of time available for long in-depth workouts. This free app gives you some options for some great small workouts. Who knows, maybe you can find several 7 minute spans of time through out your day to give yourself more of a burn!

3. Nike + Running – This app is great because it can run in the background as you carry on your run or jog. It keeps track of distance and your pace. It helps you determine calories and your progress. It is a nice way to keep track of your running history, mark your development, and set new goals! It will even show an actual map of your run based on location.

4. RunKeeper – Very similar to the Nike + Running App. If you don’t like the interface of the Nike app, give this one a try.

5. Argus – This free app runs continually in the background. It charts your movement, steps, and much more to help you get an overall picture of your health and fitness. You can set specific foals and fitness parameters for it to keep track of.

6. Jefit – Is a free app that gives you a complete exercise database which gives you ideas to work out all the different parts of your body complete with instructions and videos to watch!

Health/Nutrition:

7. BMI Calculator  – Although many people advise you not to take your BMI as the perfect picture of what your current health is, it can still give you a general idea of where you fall and where you hope to be. This free app will help you calculate your goal weight.

8. Diet Assistant – Weight Loss – Please don’t let the name of this app scare you away! It will give you healthy meal suggestions based on what foods or ingredients you have. It will offer you only health meal options so it can be great if you are running out of unique dinner ideas.

9. HealthyOut – In a pinch for dinner? This app will use your location to find the healthiest meals being offered by nearby restaurants. It’s a neat way to make life easier on yourself without breaking your diet.

10. Food.com – Although this app is not necessarily designed for weightloss or fitness, it gives you access to tons of great recipes and meal planning tools. Since it gives you more freedom you can pick and choose what foods you are eating and use your own judgment about which ones will work best for you. It gives you the ability to create shopping lists to help you when you go to the grocery store.

Keep in mind that not all of these apps might work for you! Don’t be afraid to talk to a trainer at a gym to see which apps might work well with what yo are already doing. Also don’t be afraid to ask co-workers and friends about which apps work best for them.
