With so much to do in our busy lives, our fitness can take a backseat to all of it. However, if you are trying to make your fitness a priority, now is a great time to start setting your fitness goals for today and the New Year. You can use these steps to set a goal that you can work towards achieving in a sensible and safe way will help you get fit and put your physical health at the top of your list.

Determine Your Specific Goal

You cannot know how to find success with your fitness unless you have a specific goal in mind. It doesn’t matter how small the goal may be. Setting a specific goal such as “I want to lose 15 pounds” or “I want to run an eight-minute mile” is the best way to start any new fitness adventure.

Find a Way to Measure It

After you set your goal, you will need to have a way to measure your movement towards your goal. For example, you would measure a weight loss goal by the number on the scale each week. You can also apply this to fitness goals, such as running a mile within a specific amount of time. Even a more general goal for overall fitness at the gym can be measured by how many reps you can achieve per workout.

Develop a Time Frame for Success

Once you have a goal and you know how you will measure your success, it’s time to set a time frame in which you want to achieve your goal. Some goals may not need a specific time frame, such as losing a specific amount of weight. For fitness goals such as running or training for a race, a specific time frame to meet your speed and endurance goals can make sure you are on the road to success.
