Have you fallen off the motivation horse? You had goals, you had dreams, you wrote your task list, and you had every intention of accomplishing everything on that list – so what happened? You fell off the horse, you became sad, or depressed, or distracted. It is OK, it happens to everyone. The only thing left to do is get back on the horse, and try to last a little longer the next time. Here are some tips on how to get back on the horse when you fall out of being motivated:
Science
According to theweek.com there are actually some scientific ways you can get yourself to be, and stay, motivated. These include, “getting positive, getting rewarded, and getting peer pressure.” First, we are least productive and feel the least motivated when we are sad, depressed, tired, or sick. If you feel bad at all, you probably won’t feel very motivated. So get positive and healthy, in order to get and stay motivated. Second, every time you accomplish something from your list, you should reward yourself. Knowing there is something fun or tasty at the end of the tunnel really helps productivity and motivation. Third, get others involved in your goals and tasks. Peer pressure is a great way to stay focused and motivated.
Accomplish something Simple
When you have fallen off the horse it is depressing, and your motivation to accomplish anything is at an all-time low. Instead of shooting for those lofty goals while you are down, make a simple to do list and accomplish it. Set the bar low and accomplish small specific goals, until you are ready to take on bigger things that require more motivation.
Think about Past Accomplishments
Another way to help you get back on the motivational horse is to think about things you have already done. What sort of accomplishments have you already achieved? What list items have you checked off? Focus on those things, and it will help you become motivated for the future.
