We live in a busy world. It’s so easy for other priorities to take the place of exercising and preparing healthy meals. Finding your motivation is the key. Experience has shown that the key to motivating you to live a healthier lifestyle involves how you view obstacles to healthy living.
Problems Vs. Challenges
It’s extremely motivating to hear, “Here’s a challenge for you.” Contrast that with, “You have a problem.” Problems make us feel pessimistic and not very motivated. Conversely, a challenge spurs us on to accomplish a task or goal.
Viewing your physical goals as fitness challenges motivates you to stick with your plan. A workout is no longer a dreaded chore. It’s a chance to prove what you can accomplish.
The Role of a Challenge
We constantly challenge ourselves throughout life. Children thrive on challenging school assignments. We shine when a tough project at work is completed on time. We feel a sense of accomplishment when we successfully multi-task a day’s work. We thrive under pressure. The same principle applies to fitness. Set challenging goals. Write down how you will achieve them. Have a deadline for each milestone.
Challenge yourself through competition. Get a group of friends together or join an online group. If you are overweight, don’t view it as a weight problem. View it as a fitness challenge. How you view your fitness obstacles is your choice. It’s all about perspective. If you experience a setback, just say, “Bring it on.” Remember, the bigger the challenge, the greater the rewards.
