Motivation For Weight Loss

How to Stay Motivated:  Meeting your weight loss goals

1. What is your WHY?

Make sure it is something personal and not just to fit into a dress for a special event (that reason will not sustain you for the long-term).  Think about why you want to be healthy, is it for your children, your grandchildren, avoiding chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease?  Good for you!!  These are reasons that will help you stick with it and adopt healthy lifestyle changes.

2. Make an APPOINTMENT to workout

Not only will you this help you have an allotted amount of time set aside for your work out, but you’ll be more likely to stay motivated as well.

3. Set GOALS & track your PROGRESS

If you haven’t been active in a while, the Mayo Clinic recommends setting short-term, intermediate and long-term goals. For example, start with walking 10 minutes a day three days a week. Next, try 30 minutes a day five days a week.  By setting realistic, achievable goals you will avoid frustration and giving up.

4. VARIETY is the spice of life

I get bored easily if I do the same workout over and over; I mix it up constantly.  Doing this avoids the plateau effect as well.  Your body gets use to the same routine after a while and the results become stagnant because you stop challenging your muscles.

5. MUSIC

  • Listening to music when you exercise has been proven to help you workout longer.
  • The right songs can add excitement to your routine or help you find the strength you need to achieve a personal best.  Bring It!!
  • The right tunes can also improve your mood and your mindset. On those days when you do not feel like working out, hearing some music can be the boost you need to stick to your goals.

6. Just 10 MINUTES

Give yourself just 10 minutes to get into your workout, more likely than not you will get into that workout mood and you will finish the entire routine.  Most of the battle is showing up!

7. Make a BET with a friend or family member

When money is involved you will be more likely to stick to your fitness goals.
