We have all been there. We have been dieting and exercising. We have been watching the weight come off, usually slowly. Then, all of a sudden, it stops. We keep exercising and dieting. No change. We are stuck in a plateau. Thankfully, there are tips to bust through it.
Monitor your diet. It is easy to start to cheat a diet, especially if you have been very strict for a long time. Once you start, it is hard to stop. Sometimes, it is even harder to admit that you are cheating. So take a look at what you are eating and make the change if you are cheating.
Reevaluate how much you need to be eating as you lose weight. As you lose weight, you may need to eat even less to continue to lose weight. Your body is getting smaller and there is less of you to move around while exercising. You may need to cut back a little more to start losing weight again.
Switch up your exercise routine. Your body gets used to an exercise routine so that it does not have to work as hard to do it. Try something new. It can be a new exercise class or simply walking somewhere new.
Switch up the intensity with your exercise routine. This goes along with the previous tip. Often, you do not need to change what you do for exercise, but, you do need to change the intensity. Work out harder as you get fitter.
Find other ways to move during the day. Walk around while you are watching television or talking on the phone. You burn more calories when you are standing so do household chores while standing to see if that helps you burn through the plateau.
Weight loss plateaus are very depressing. When you have been working out hard and watching your diet so much, it can be very upsetting to stop losing weight. However, it is important to switch up your diet and exercise so that you can work past the plateau to get the body that you want.
