The holidays are a time of family, friendships, and fun. However, if you have a weight loss goal, they are often a time of parties and overeating. There are many tips to help keep you from gaining weight over the holidays.
1. Try to stay active. Maybe you are not able to exercise as much, but cleaning the house, decorating the house, and walking while shopping can be considered a form of exercise.
2. Do not forget to eat. Start your morning off with a good breakfast. Eat before you go to the party. Snack on veggies to fill you up. All of these will help you feel full so that the food won’t look as good.
3. Try to stay away from the food. People often stand around the food table and snack the entire time. Stay in the other room.
4. Wear tight clothing. This may sound silly but if you are uncomfortable in your pants, you are certainly not going to stuff yourself to the point of having to unbutton them.
5. Do not deny yourself something to eat. Instead, just eat a portion of the food. If you don’t allow yourself to eat something, the urge to eat it just continues to grow. Once you let yourself eat it, you feel awful about not having any willpower. The cycle just continues.
6. If you have a problem with alcohol, maybe you just need to have something in your hand. Hold a wine glass but fill it with water. That way, you can toast with others and still feel like you are a part of the party.
7. Find someone to help. People who have weight loss partners are often more successful, no matter the time of the year. So find someone you can lose weight with.
The holidays are a tough time to lose weight. Maybe you should change your weight loss goals over the holidays. Instead of continuing to lose weight, a more healthier (and attainable) goal of not gaining any weight over the holidays is a good alternative. That way, if you don’t lose any weight, you do not stress over it.
