Do you need to get rid of toxins in your system?

That tired, sluggish feeling you’ve had lately may be a sign that you do.

If you’re sick of feeling off, lethargic, sluggish and just downright yucky, I have some great news for you.

You’re as close as a hot bath away from feeling better.

Not just any bath. An Epsom salt bath.

Why Epsom Salts?

Epsom salts can do amazing things for your health. Starting with detoxification.

You’ve most likely heard of detoxing before. It shows up in health news pretty much daily.

But why detox? Is it really necessary, or is it just a passing fad?

No, it’s not a fad.  In fact, today, more than ever, we need to find ways to detoxify our bodies because we’re being attacked from every side.

And the amount of toxins in our environment continues to be on the rise. Unless you live in a bubble, there’s no way to avoid exposure.

Consider this brief list, taken from the website Healthy Living How To:

    • 2100 toxins, including pesticides, PCBs, and medications have been found in our water supply.
    • 80,000 metric tons of carcinogens are released into the air annually in North America.
    • Over 80% of foods have genetically modified ingredients.
    • The EPA estimates the average US citizen has residues from over 400 toxic compounds in their body.
    • 82,000 chemicals are in use today in the U.S., but only a fourth have been tested for toxicity.

Yikes and double yikes!  It’s enough to make your hair curl.

Lucky for you, there are tools that can help combat these onslaughts.

One of them is an Epsom salt bath.

The Bath That Can Help You Relax — And Detox

You may have heard of Epsom salts already. They’re pretty common.

You’ve probably seen them on your grocery store shelves and at the local pharmacy.

But like many people, you may not really know what they can do.

And no, you’re not going to drink it. At least not for our purposes.

There actually are many uses for Epsom salts, but we’re going to concentrate on just one of them — the Epsom salt soak.

The Easy, Enjoyable, and Fast Way To Detox

Since toxins are always in the news, and so many health and fitness sites talk about detoxifying, it wouldn’t be surprising if you’ve thought about doing it yourself.

But how?

Some of the detox drinks seem fishy. Fasting isn’t always safe.

How do you know what is safe and won’t cost a fortune?

Epsom salts are inexpensive, readily available and safe.

And an Epsom salt soak will help you relax, de-stress and unwind, all while helping to rid your body of toxins.

But wait. Aren’t salts drying to your skin?

Not Epsom salts. Soaking in them will actually smooth and soften your skin.

Think mineral springs and you’ll get an idea of why they’re different.

Epsom Salts — A Different Kind Of Salt

Epsom salts are not really salt at all. They’re a mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, formed when the chalk in the ground meets the clay.

The natural healing baths resulting from this union are found in, appropriately enough, Epsom, England.

How Do Epsom Salts Work?

As you soak and relax, the sulfates in Epsom salts flush heavy metals from your cells through reverse osmosis, easing muscle pain and discomfort — and detoxifying your system.

And detoxing is just one benefit of an Epsom salt soak.

They do much more, including:

    • Relaxing you.
    • Easing aches and pains.
    • Improving your sleep.
    • Relieving migraine pain.
    • Improving oxygen use.
    • Helping prevent artery hardening and blood clots.
    • Improving nutrient absorption.
    • Aiding in proper muscle and nerve to function.

How To Enjoy Your Epsom Salt Detox Bath

Sold on the benefits of an Epsom salt soak?

Good.  Here’s all you need to do to enjoy yours.

The perfect Epsom salt soak:

  • Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to a standard sized tub full of water
  • If desired, add 2 -5 drops of an essential oil for added relaxation. (Lavender is particularly nice and has added calming properties.)
  • Make the water as warm as you can stand. You want to sweat to release toxins.
  • If desired, if your water is unfiltered, add a cup of baking soda. This will help neutralize any chemicals, like chlorine, that may be present.
  • Soak for 15 – 20 minutes, as immersed in the water as possible.
  • Close your eyes and relax.
  • Get out of the bath slowly. You may feel very relaxed, almost woozy. This feeling will pass, leaving you with a sense of calm.
  • Don’t use soaps or perfumes in the water, or on your skin afterwards. They’ll counteract the benefits of the magnesium sulfate.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • If headed to bed, pleasant dreams.

Really, the main things to remember are to add 2 cups of salts to a full, warm bath.  Soak for 15 to 20 minutes.

Relax.
