Let’s face it, sometimes it’s hard to eat right. But everyone knows that there are certain foods that aren’t good for us: soda, cookies and anything from fast food places. All of the processed foods can give you many health problems and don’t contain much in the way of nutrition; everyone needs a healthy diet. So, just what are the healthiest foods to fill our bodies with?
Spirulina – Okay, so the thought of swallowing lake algae might be disgusting, but if you stick it in a bar of chocolate or mix it into your favorite smoothie, it actually tastes pretty good. It’s packed with minerals, antioxidants and protein making it the most nutritious food in the world. Spirulina can assist with cleansing the body of toxins, boosting the immune system, maintaining heart health as well as many other things.
Broccoli – This tasty vegetable has a variety of uses and is wonderful in soups, stews or added to a stir fry; not to mention it’s great on its own as a side dish. When your parents told you to eat your broccoli, they knew what they were talking about. Broccoli reduces your risk of getting cancer and will maintain a smooth-running digestive system.
Hemp Seed – This versatile seed can be easily digested and, not only that, it tastes good! Hemp seed is laden with antioxidants, minerals, amino acids, fiber, vitamins and important fatty acids. Besides keeping your heart in good working order, hemp seed also helps memory, promotes learning and boosts healthy function of the immune system.
Kale – This food can be used in many different dishes, tastes good and is quite easy to prepare. Kale can help prevent cancer and decrease inflammation because it’s filled with vitamins, vital antioxidants, amino acids, minerals and fiber.
Chia Seeds – This seed is a much better choice than flax seed and was even used by the Aztec warriors. Chia seeds can be kept for a long time—up to two years!—and they won’t rot because they’re an antioxidant-rich seed. Aside from being loaded with antioxidants, chia seeds are also packed with protein, omega fats and fiber. Although chia seeds are tasteless, blending them with all the foods you eat will intensify the flavor of that food. Eating chia seeds have terrific health benefits such as stabilizing blood sugar, aids you in losing weight and assists in preventing Diverticulitis.
Chocolate – That’s right…chocolate. Cacao beans contain lots of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and there are so many health benefits in this small bean that scientists don’t even know them all right now; but they’re working on it! But, hang on, this doesn’t mean you can run out and buy that big box of chocolates. Only dark chocolate or raw cacao beans have the health benefits to help your skin and heart. Just one small piece per day of dark chocolate is all you need to reap the terrific health advantages.
Berries – Berries are wonderful to eat just as they are for a snack or you can add them to almost any dish. Berries are loaded with essential minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. What’s even better is that they have less sugar than other fruits. Berries are also high in health advantages as well. They can increase your immunity, reduce signs of aging and protect against a wide variety of cancers and chronic diseases. But each berry isn’t without its own distinct kind of benefit: blueberries aid in fighting diseases, raspberries might assist with preventing cancer, cranberries can treat as well as prevent urinary tract infections and strawberries, believe it or not, contain more Vitamin C than a whole orange!
Spinach – Spinach is full of good nourishment with protein, antioxidants and fiber. But pick the frozen or fresh spinach and not that canned stuff that Popeye used to eat. Spinach protects against prostate cancer and is a good fighter against skin and stomach cancer. It also helps in lowering blood pressure, shields against age-related macular degeneration and cataracts, helps maintain strong bones and helps keep brain function and the nervous system in top working condition. Whether you choose to eat spinach cooked or raw, its robust and sweet flavor goes great with any meal!
Eating a wholesome diet containing something from every food group at each meal is essential to maintaining a healthy body. If you incorporate these foods into your well-balanced diet, you’re sure to gain many health benefits from them along the way.
