Maybe you are just starting to exercise. Maybe you were doing really well and took a break that won’t end. You might decide that you would rather sleep an extra hour than wake up early to exercise. We have all gone through slumps with no motivation to exercise. So how can you get motivated to get off of the couch and work out?
Set a goal. Many people find a picture of themselves when they looked better and hang it somewhere that they will see it often. Have a favorite celebrity? Hang a picture of that person so you have goals that you want to meet.
Find something fun to do for exercise. People who say that they love to exercise have truly found something that they like to do. If you hate to run, chances are you will not stick to a running program. Join a gym and try out some different classes until you find something that you love (or at least don’t hate) so that you are going to stick to it.
Find support. Tell your family and friends what you are doing. They can help to motivate you. If you join a gym, find friends there to work out with. Set times to meet up so that you all get your exercising in for the day.
Make exercise more convenient. If you find ways to exercise that is better for you, you will find fewer excuses not to. Short on time? Do a ten minute home work out video. Do you have a long lunch break? Join a gym nearby and go on breaks.
You must remember that your motivation may come and go but you must continue to stick with it. Exercise as often as you can. Do not forget your goals and stop exercising. There is no simple way to get and keep going. It just takes perseverance and a whole lot of strength to start and keep an exercise program. You can do it!
