P90X v.s. P90X3: Picking the Best Option For You

P90X v.s. P90X3: Picking the Best Option For You

“Do your best and forget the rest,” is the popular tagline spoken often by Tony Horton in his P90X workout program from a couple years ago. This intense workout grew quickly in popularity for many reasons. It is intense for those who require or desire an intense workout, but has ample options for modification for those who are weaker, suffering from injuries, or are simply out of shape. It also offers different schedules to follow depending on the intensity you desire.

Many adults in their 30s, 40s, or older have found success with this program for many reasons. One huge reason is that they are in control of their reps, weight, and range of movement with the program. As you follow the DVDs, you listen to Tony caution participants to listen to their bodies, go slow, stop if it hurts, etc.

Horton even came out with a P90X2…a sequel of sorts. It was designed to be more intense, require greater strength, and coordination. P90x2 was considered by Tony to be the next step up, one for ‘P90X’ grads.

But now there is a new workout on the block. P90X3, but even though it is 3rd in number, Tony is quick to explain that it is instead a variation on the same basic program.

In this interview with Forbes, Tony Horton gives a small teaser as to what makes P90X3 so different from it’s predecessors.

P90X3…what’s the deal?

  • 30 minute long workouts, instead of the 45 minute plus workouts of the other two programs
  • 16 different workouts (plus 3 bonus workouts if you purchase the deluxe or ultimate kits)
  • Some of the workouts are new for this program
  • Most of the same equipment as P90X (included in the deluxe or ultimate kits)

Which version is for you?

This is truly a hard choice, particularly given the fact that P90X3 just was released. However, some things to consider include the large variety of workouts and the shorter workout time. It is especially useful for people with busy and hectic schedules. They may find it easier to commit and stay committed to the shorter workouts.

Both P90X and P90X3 focus on full body workouts on a 90 day schedule. It will be interesting to see how this new workout matches up the popular original version!
