8 Simple Ways to Keep Your Motivation Going Strong! We’ve all heard it before, “Starting any routine or life change is said to be the easy part.” Staying Motivated is the true challenge. Without it, success is an unlikely accomplishment. As adults we all stay so busy with work, family life, and other daily commitments that we often lose sight of what really matters, Our Health! However there are ways to increase and boost your motivation through 8 simple steps that are sure to keep you positive and excited to continue your progress and journey towards a better, healthier and happier new you.

  1. Reach out to others! Utilize your support system! People often make the mistake of trying to reach their weight loss and exercise goals alone; which can become a daunting task when you feel you are flying solo in all of your hard efforts. Having people there to offer a word of encouragement, give tips/pointers, or having someone who can provide answers to your questions allows you to feel connected, understood and increases your desire and drive to push forward. Our drive is often re-fueled when we know that there are others in similar positions that refuse to give up. So take advantage of chat rooms, read success stories (as they allow you to see that nothing is impossible,) and share your own ups and downs. Opening up to others who are on the same path as you, will help you to feel like you are a part of something bigger; which in fact you are.
  2. Track your Progress. Often, no one is more critical of “you” then you are of yourself. We often forget all the strides we have made and the hard work we have put in to get where we currently are. We can spend so much of our time focusing on imperfections and changes that we still wish to make, that we are blind to the results we have already achieved. It’s important to always have the desire to continue to improve but pat yourself on the back once in a while for the achievements you have already made. Take pictures along the way and use them to reflect on.
  3. Treat Yourself. A treat does not mean we go on a junk food shopping spree. Why ruin all your hard work and efforts on high calorie packaged foods?! Instead take time out for yourself by getting a massage, sit quietly at the beach or soak in a bath tub, actually light candles. Often treating yourself to a simple pleasure works wonders in rejuvenating your Motivation.
  4. Motivate others. Know a friend? neighbor? or family member who also wants to improve on their healthy, body and energy levels? Try making it a point to invite them to join a program, set up a time to workout together and tell them you are there if they need to vent. Putting yourself in the position to be there for others will allow you to feel more powerful and in turn, you will be more determined to stay motivated in achieving your own goals.
  5. Keep a Journal. Write down your feelings, your struggles and your ups and downs, Write it all down and express what’s challenging and what you have overcome. Keeping a journal relieves stress and you can also go back to previous days and weeks and see where you can improve or what changes you may need to make.
  6. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Everyone hits a plateau. Don’t wallow in it. Make working out more exciting; push your body to new heights by incorporating new and various workout equipment. You may be surprised at how a change in your routine is just what you needed.
  7. Experiment in the kitchen. Check out new and healthy recipes, swap meal ideals with friends and actually make them. Trying new meals can be great in keeping you from reaching for unhealthy options. If you find creative and flavorful healthy meals, you will be less tempted to reach for something that will sabotage you.
  8. Meditate. Clearing your mind is key to staying focused. Meditation will help you to de-stress, gain focus, and relax. So take 10 minutes out of the day to be someplace quiet and clear your mind of everything, breathe and let go of the million little things you need to do. Once your mind is less foggy you will be more equipped to remember what’s most important, YOU!   saturday-motivation-7
